Answers To Common Questions:
1. How many dogs can I bring?
As many as you want to pay for and can adequately supervise.
2. Do I need to be a Bristol Resident?
No - this event is open to all friendly pooches and their owners.
3. Can I swim with my dog?
Unfortunately NO - only dogs will be allowed in the pool. However, a life guard will be on duty.
4. Does my dog have to remain on a leash?
NO! The pool is within a large fenced in area with grassy areas. Once inside the fence, dogs do not need to stay on a leash.
5. Should I bring water?
Two large water bowls will be available to dogs for drinking - human water won't be available.
6. Should I bring treats for the dogs?
Probably not, unless you have a specific need for training. Leave the focus for the dogs on playing, not begging for treats. Plus, not everyone wants their dogs to have treats.
7. Are children allowed?
Small children are discouraged from attending because they can easily be knocked over by playing dogs (accidentally) . Remember that there will be dogs in a huge variety of sizes, from 5 pounds to 200 pounds (great danes!). Unless in a backpack or other such devise, this is probably not the best event to bring small kids.
8. Why are you having a dog swim?
To have a fun event for people to participate in with their dogs, provide dogs a great time to exercise with other dogs, and raise money to put up a fence for a dog park in Bristol.
9. Where will the dog park be?
Right at Rockwell Park, just a short walk from the pool. Directions will be available to allow you to take a look at our dog park site.
10. When will the dog park go in?
The Park Board has just approved the preliminary plans for a small and large dog fenced in area. We hope to be able to complete the process by the end of this year (2009).
11. What if my dog hates to swim?
No problem - very fews dogs will actually be brave enough to go into the pool. Last time only about 3-5 of the 50 or so dogs ventured into the water. All the other dogs just had a great time running around the fenced in area (and it was fun to watch the dogs that were swimming).
